The Airports Authority ordered Tuesday night a closure of Mitiga Airport after indiscriminate rockets fell on the airport with no reports of damage.

Sources from Mitiga Airport confirmed that all airplanes were safe and have been moved to Misrata Airport where scheduled flights will commence from there.

The sources added that the Civil Aviation Authority will issue a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to halt flights at Mitiga Airport until further notice.

A group calling itself “Tripoli Youth Movement” claimed responsibility for the shelling and posted a video showing launch of the rockets. The group demanded the Special Deterrence Force “to get out of the airport and hand it over to the state.”

It’s the second closure within 12 days. The airport suspended flights on August 30 after an artillery shell landed near the control tower and flights resumed a week after.
