Spokesman for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Jan Alam said the Advisory Committee (AC) for the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) achieved significant progress in Geneva this week.

Alam told reporters on Friday the AC has overcome major hurdles during their debate on a mechanism to select an executive authority, expressing hope for interlocutors to reach a clear consensus very soon.

"The 5 + 5 military track has made significant progress, especially after the exchange of detainees, the resumption of flights to all parts of Libya, and the resumption of oil production and export," the UNSMIL spokesman said, confirming that talks on opening the coastal road linking Misrata and Sirte are still ongoing.

The UN official also praised the decision to unify the exchange rate and considered the recent meeting to discuss unifying the general budget as a step forward towards unifying national institutions and developing more sustainable and equitable economic arrangements, as he put it.
