Sheikh of Ajdabiya’s Magharba tribe, Saleh Latawish, survived an assassination attempt in Benghazi on Friday.

Local sources said an explosive device, placed on the shoe rack at the entrance of a mosque in Sidi Faraj district, exploded as Latawish and his sons were about to put their shoes on after performing the Friday afternoon prayer.

Seven people including his sons were wounded in the blast while he managed to escape, eyewitnesses reported.

This is the second attempt to murder Latawish. In November 2016, a car bomb exploded outside a mosque in the same district while he was leaving the Friday prayer. It is not clear whether it is the same mosque or not.

It seems that the war-torn city has been plunged into political assassinations.  In October 2016, the head of Libyan Anti-Corruption Organization, Mohamed Abu Gaiqis, was killed in a car bomb explosion. In May 2017, a car bomb went off outside a mosque killing Awaqir tribe leader Braik Al-Lwati.

Dignity Operation claims the city is totally secured after the announcement of liberation of the city earlier last month.
