Prime Minister of the Salvation Government, Khalifa Al-Ghweil, reiterated his call on the European Union (EU) to offer both assistance and solidarity, which would help eradicate the illegal immigration phenomenon that is using the Mediterranean coasts as a take off base.

Al-Ghweil disclosed to the press, following his recent visit to Misrata Coast Guard, that the SG urges the EU, particularly Italy, to open mutualcommunication channels between them to discuss the how-to aids that could help confine the overflow of the illegal immigrants to Europe, besides giving the needed backup for the Illegal Immigration’s Fight Authority.

The International Organization for Migration, based in Geneva, has recently called for an international investigation into the drowning tragedy that ended the lives of 800 illegal immigrants in the Mediterranean on April 19 as they were trying to be drifted off to the northern shore of the Mediterranean.
