A Military police officer has been assassinated in the city of Sirte, the Victims Organization for Human Rights (VOHR) confirmed on Friday.

The deceased, identified to be Atiya Al-Tarhuni is from Tarhuna and resides in the Warshafana district some 30 km southwest of Tripoli.

According to the organization, Al-Tarhouni was shot in the head at his workplace.

Meanwhile, another officer is still missing, said the VOHR, indicating that his car was found burned and a search operation has been launched to disclose his fate.

Since early 2020, Sirte has been under the control of the multinational Haftar militias - including mercenaries from the Janjaweed, Chadians, the Russian Wagner, the 604th Battalion of the Madkhaliya, and supporters of the late dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
