Finance Minister, Faraj Boumtari discussed with the Chairman of the Social Solidarity Fund Authority, on Wednesday, the precautionary measures needed to confront the coronavirus threat.

Boumtari stressed it is most important to operationalize the competences conferred to the fund in cases of natural disasters and calamities stipulated in Article 7 of the commission's Act, for its role in facing the dangers encountering the country.

For his part, the head of the Social Security Fund expressed his complete readiness to provide all the necessary financial requirements in particular.

The National Center for Disease Control has assured so far that Libya is free of the disease, as the number of newly reported cases of infection rises rapidly across the globe, bringing normal life to a standstill in several major cities.

According to the latest data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 11 of March, the number of affected countries has tripled. More than 118,000 cases have been confirmed in 114 countries, while 4,291 people have lost their lives, the WHO explained.
