The Libyan Presidential Council welcomed in a statement a UN Security Council resolution, on Friday, that gave the green light for a UN mission to monitor last October’s historic ceasefire agreement in the country.

The statement explained that the UN Security Council (UNSC) is in support of Libya’s interim executive authority which is authorized to govern the country until elections in December, urging all legislative authorities in Libya to support the Government of National Unity in its efforts to hold elections, and to approve the budget and appointment of sovereign positions' incumbents as per the roadmap of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.

The Presidential Council indicated that the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and others decisions made by the 5+5 Joint Military Commission, including the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya, must be respected and supported.

The UNSC unanimously adopted Friday a resolution to deploy ceasefire monitors to Libya and another resolution extending a ban on illicit oil exports from the country.
