A source that preferred to remain anonymous said the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh and a number of HoR members on his side, in addition to pro-Haftar members of National Sovereignty Bloc, held meetings on last Thursday and Friday with the aim to amend the presidential elections law in a way that blocks current Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah's chances of running in December.

The source said the meetings came up with the amendment to the law, which was approved unilaterally without consulting the High Council of State, and said they would approve it without holding an HoR session.

The amendment, according to the source, says the presidential candidates should have quit their military or civilian public jobs three months before December 24, which means, the source adds, that Dbeibah cannot run for president if he wanted to because he is still working as a Prime Minister with two months to go for elections, remarking that the High National Elections Commission received the amendment and will announce it October 24.

The electoral commission will announce on Sunday the latest developments for the elections process to ensure fair and transparent elections.
