In its first comment on the resignation of the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame, the Libyan Foreign Ministry has called on the international community to speak out the truth and condemn the aggressor and the attacking forces in this destructive war that has been ongoing since April 2019.

The Libyan Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the international community shouldn't equalize the legitimate government with the outlawed one or the defenders of their city and houses with the ones attacking them.

"We appreciate the peace efforts that have been exerted by the UN and the Secretary General as well as the UNSMIL that aim to reach a ceasefire in Libya. We hope these efforts lead to a halt of external interventions that are destabilizing Libya and intimidating, and to the most part killing and wounding, the Libyan people."

It added that the GNA had done its best to save Libyan lives and avoid bloodshed, yet the other party and its foreign supporters are taking this with stubbornness as they continue to destroy Libya and Libyans' dreams of democracy on their way to seize power.

"The international community should uphold its responsibility toward Libyans by supporting security and stability initiatives and pressing the rebels to stop the offensive on Tripoli and other Libyan cities so all parties in Libya can go back to abiding by legitimacy and the political process under the auspices of the UN." The Foreign Ministry remarked.

Meanwhile, the Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha said he was sorry that Ghassan Salame had stepped down as Libya UN envoy, saying it would make things more difficult in Libya as it would be very tough a job to be taken by any other envoy.
