A delegation from the Council of Notables for Reconciliation in Libya told the UNSMIL Officer-in-Charge/ Mission Coordinator Raisedon Zenenga on Sunday that elections, which should take place within six months, were the only solution to the Libyan crisis.

A statement by the UN mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said that Zenenga received the delegation and listened to their concerns over the current political situation and its impact on the lives of Libyans.

According to the UNSMIL, they presented proposals to resolve the political impasse over the executive through solutions rooted in Libyan customs and traditions. They also stressed the need to renew efforts towards national reconciliation through a social track.

For his part, Zenenga welcomed their efforts and proposals and stressed that the United Nations was committed to holding elections under a constitutional basis and a legal framework as soon as possible.
