The Presidential Council's Interior Ministry has started organizing the status of foreign workers in Libya, including their entry and residence in the country as per the laws, calling on the foreign nationals to visit the nearest passports and citizenship office for registration and filling out forms for the matter.

The Interior Ministry said on Thursday on Facebook that the passports and citizenship offices will facilitate the speed up procedures for the entry and departure of the foreign nationals via the Libyan borders, calling on the offices to use high0tech devices in the procedures.

It also asked the offices to register the foreign nationals' rentals by the owners of houses in the nearest police stations.

"All foreigners can enter and reside in Libya by obtaining a visa as per the Libyan laws." The statement reads, calling on Libyans to take the initiative and register any foreigners renting their properties and inform authorities for any illegal activities they might notice.

"Some people have used foreign workers for illegal activities leading to higher crime rates, begging groups, diseases and the like thus burdening medical centers, educational and housing facilities in Libya with more expenditure. This also led to low quality work by foreign workforce and thus affected the quality of the Libyan product." the statement adds.

Over 60% of the foreign workforce in Libya is illegal and thus is affecting the national economy as well as the well-being of the workers themselves.
