A group of 34 migrants stranded in Malta's search and rescue zone have called the non-governmental organization (Alarm Phone) for help, the NOG confirmed.

The emergency hotline NGO receives SOS messages from migrants crossing the Mediterranean before relaying them to the national authorities, depending on their exact location.

In a statement to the Times of Malta, the organization confirmed that the migrants reached out to them after spending Friday night at sea waiting for help.

"The people in distress just said ‘please help us, immediate rescue, rescue now’, they repeat it again and again," an Alarm Phone spokesperson disclosed.

The NOG alerted that the migrants are still drifting in harsh weather conditions and needed immediate rescue before their boat capsizes.

The newspaper had no information on the number of men, women, and children onboard or the state of their health conditions. However, the NOG spokesperson said it is assumed the boat left from Misrata in Libya.

Meanwhile, the Maltese authorities said they were not responsible for the boat as it was outside the Maltese rescue zone.
