Human Rights group: Al-Kani militia killed 230 people

Victims Organization for Human Rights said Tarhouna-based Al-Kani militia has killed 230 people since 2014, saying in some incidents, the militia killed entire families.

The organization said in a report on Tuesday named "Al-Kani Militia Crimes in Tarhouna City " that the militia had committed crimes against humanity; 123 people from Tarhouna, 7 from Souq Al-Khamis, over 64 kidnappings, torture and blackmail and over 24 looting cases.

The organization published names of 10 leaders from the militia, saying they are very dangerous criminals.

The Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha ordered Tuesday the arrest of 17 people involved in killings in Tripoli, including Al-Kani family members, saying 12 of them must be brought to justice for the killing of 12 Al-Mabrouk family members and the kidnapping and murder of religious cleric Nader Al-Omrani.

Al-Kani family is running a militia whose loyalty isn't totally known and has controlled Tarhouna and then managed to expand and form 9th/7th Brigade, which was behind two fighting in Tripoli in 2018 and 2019.

The 7th Brigade issued a statement on the third day of Haftar's war on Tripoli and announced fighting for Haftar, after first saying it wouldn't pick sides.
