The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Sunday affirmed Cairo's full support for Libya's interim government and the road map agreed upon through the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.

El-Sisi's remarks came in a statement by the Egyptian presidency following his meeting with Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Manqoush in the presence of her counterpart Sameh Shoukry and the head of the General Intelligence Abbas Kamel.

"Egypt fully supports the Presidential Council and the Libyan government, in their tasks during the transitional period, aimed at restoring stability and holding elections on their scheduled date on December 24," the statement read, insisting that restoring Libya’s sovereignty begins with the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries.

For her part, Al-Manqoush expressed her aspiration to enhance cooperation with Egypt, especially at the security level, and said she is looking forward to the continued support of Cairo and for raising the level of mutual diplomatic representation.

Al-Manqoush arrived in Cairo, on Saturday, on her first visit to Egypt since taking office months ago, where she discussed with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry bilateral relations and the importance of supporting the Libyan political process.
