Libya has intensified condemnation over the role played by the United Arab Emirates in fueling fighting in the country.
Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala strongly condemned “the hostile stances” of the Gulf state by hosting a press conference for the spokesperson of warlord Khalifa Haftar on its territory to incite war on Tripoli.
“We regard this act as a backup for the Tripoli attackers to kill Libyans and commit more violations and war crimes”, he said in a letter to the UN Security Council Monday.
He added that the UAE act is a coup against the legitimate Government of National Accord and a flagrant violation of Security Council resolutions.
The UAE bears the legal responsibility, he says, reiterating the right to defend Tripoli against the attackers.
Minister Sayala requested the UN Security Council to carry out its duties by placing the attackers of Tripoli and their supporters under the international law.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly of Libyan Scholars and Sheikhs has requested the Presidential Council to cut off all relations with “the rogue state of the United Arab Emirates for its crimes against Libyans.”
