Presidential candidate Aqila Saleh has resumed work as Speaker of Parliament after an announced vacation, which he started in October 2021, MPs Abdel Hadi Al-Sagheer and Ibrahim Al-Darsi have confirmed.

Saleh had suspended himself from governmental duties to join the presidential race that was called off at the last minute.

The last session chaired by Aqila Saleh was before his vacation on September 20, 2021, during which a vote of confidence was taken from the Government of National Unity headed by Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.

Even though, Saleh continued to conduct meetings and interviews with political and social actors until the seventh of October.

The HoR speaker delegated his powers to the First Deputy Speaker of the House, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, who chaired the Parliament for a period of three months.

The return of Aqila Saleh to the Parliament's presidency comes after the failure to hold the presidential elections that were scheduled for December 24, 2021, due to "force majeure", according to what the High National Elections Commission announced.
