The High Council of State (HCS) has called on the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee (JMC) to abide by its responsibilities and not interfere in political affairs or international agreements.

It deemed the security and border agreements concluded by the GNA "an expression of the will of the Libyan state and the legitimate authority that possessed the inherent power," underscoring that the treaties cannot be diluted or nullified only by an elected executive and legislative authority.

"If the committee does not adhere to its competence, it will be considered a tool for a political party and guilty of irresponsibility," the HCS said in a statement Sunday.

At the conclusion of its meetings on Saturday, the JMC confirmed that it had addressed the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity to freeze military agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded with any country.

The Committee also called on the Libyan political forum to quickly adopt the constitutional rule and rise above narrow interests so that the Libyans could exercise their right to the elections next December. It also reiterated its demand to appointing a Minister of Defence.
