The Head of Al-Khumus Urgent Power Plant, Ali Al-Yaseer, said the plant will join in the electricity general network very soon and will add about 525 megawatts to it.

Al-Yaseer added that the Turkish company Chalk Energy, which implemented the whole project as per a 2014 contract, is about to finish its works in the two-gas-unit station in Al-Khumus, adding that the project has succeeded by 92% so far.

“The two units produce 226 megawatts each and they are now at the last stages of being fully operating as the first will start at the beginning of September maximum and the second a month later.

This new urgent power plant could help reduce the power outages and hours of load shedding in most of the country’s cities before the start of winter.
