A nascent Libyan company, led by a number of young people, announced the planting of 150,000 olive tree seedlings, within the municipality of Zliten, with the aim of producing high-quality oil for local consumption and export abroad, in addition to soil stabilization and the reconstruction and reclamation of lands surrounding cities and villages.

The project aspires to produce one million liters of high-quality olive oil, to be introduced to the global markets, according to those in charge of the project.

It is to be noted that the arable land in Libya is estimated at less than 2%, as Libya is a desert country in which desert land cover about 95% of the country, according to a report of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the World Bank Group.
