Customs officials from across Libya participated in training provided by the United States to improve the screening of cargo and people at ports of entry with the aim of preventing the smuggling of illicit items.

The United States Embassy in Libya said that the training course, sponsored by the Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) program of the U.S. Department of State, is critical for preventing the smuggling of weapons of mass destruction and or conventional weapons across Libyan borders.

US Ambassador and Envoy to Libya Richard Norland said that this collaborative effort with Libyan Customs officials from the Anti-Smuggling unit is another way that the United States is working to support stability in Libya and the region.
