The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) gave instructions to the Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, to begin to deploy monitors of the ceasefire in Libya.

In a letter to Guterres, the UNSC stated: “While the members of the Council are presently studying your recommendation regarding a modified mandate for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), the members are presently asking that you create a plan for the formation and swift deployment of a monitoring team to Libya.”

The UNSC added that within no less than 45 days, it expects to receive reports on the preparations to be made in initiating the advance monitoring team, along with practical proposals to amend the mandate of the UNSMIL.
