The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has evacuated 176 vulnerable asylum seekers from Libyan soil on a humanitarian flight to Rwanda.

The head of the UNHCR mission in Libya, Jean-Paul Cavalieri, applauded the Libyan authorities in facilitating the trip successfully.

“It is reassuring to see more people evacuated to safety in Rwanda,” said Ahmed Baba Fall, the UNHCR representative in Rwanda.

He continued, “We commend this country’s leadership and supporters for their generous assistance with all relevant efforts to revive the hopes for the evacuees.”
