Rwanda agreed Tuesday to receive hundreds and possibly thousands of African refugees and asylum-seekers stranded in Libya, upon a tripartite agreement signed by the African state, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the African Union, which expressed hope that other member states would follow Rwanda's approach in this regard.

The Rwandan delegate to the African Union clarified in a press statement, after the signing of the agreement, that his country will receive the first batch of 500 people during the coming weeks.
