The Director of Ras Ajdir crossing border with Tunisia Brigadier Abdul Salam Omrani confirmed Saturday the continued closure of the border from the Libyan side due to the mistreatment of Libyan travellers by Tunisian protesters.
In a press statement, Omrani explained that the closure decision aims to ensure the safety of Libyan citizens, stressing that the interior ministry is fully aware of the risks inflicted upon Libyan citizens in the Tunisian territory.
Since the beginning of July, Tunisian protesters have repeatedly closed the roads in front of Libyans travelling to Tunisia in protest against Libyan authorities’ decision to eliminate smuggling operations to the Tunisian side.
