A member of the Libyan Constituent Assembly, Nadia Omran, said on Wednesday that members of the Assembly had proposed several alternatives after delaying tactics by the House of Representatives (HoR) to pass a law on the referendum for the constitution, but all their attempts and efforts were met with refusal.

Omran said in a press statement that the alternatives presented to the HoR was to mandate by the High National Elections Commissions to hold a referendum on the constitution, or the Presidential Council issues a referendum law by a presidential decree, noting that some of those rejecting these alternatives are afraid of division and the loss of their powers.

The draft constitution was submitted last July to the House of Representatives to issue a referendum law, but MPs have not yet passed any law regarding it.
