The Government of North Darfur State of Sudan announced that it had begun arrangements to reopen the Libyan-Sudanese border to legitimate trade.

The Governor of North Darfur Sharif Mohamed Abbad clarified in a press statement to the Sudanese Center for Press Services on Friday that the Secretary of State will attend the opening of the crossing border next week.

Abbad pointed out that the borders of the state with Libya will be secured by the army which will prevent any violations, thefts or infiltration of remnants of armed groups.

In September last year, Sudan announced the closure of its land borders with Libya, Chad and South Sudan, to prevent arms smuggling and infiltration of gangs.
