The US Special Envoy and Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, said that the ceasefire agreement in Libya enabled the initiation of political negotiations, which made remarkable progress within a year, as he described it.

Norland, who was speaking on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the ceasefire agreement, indicated that holding a conference to support Libya’s stability in Tripoli, was the best indicator of the progress made so far, praising the role of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC) in this regard.

Norland renewed his country’s support for Libya in implementing the subsequent steps of the ceasefire agreement, considering that Washington’s goal is national reconciliation, reunification of institutions and holding elections as scheduled in December.
