Chairman of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, has stressed the need to hold elections on sound grounds based on the House of Representatives’ willingness to adhere to its commitments by issuing the referendum and electoral laws. This came during his meeting with French Ambassador to Libya Brigitte Curmi, accompanied by French military attaché on Wednesday in Tripoli. Curmi stressed her country's keen interest in achieving stability in Libya, and to ensure the smooth running of the coming elections.The two sides also discussed the economic forum to be sponsored by the French embassy in Tripoli next month, which will be attended by major French companies in various sectors including energy, health and infrastructure.

The Illegal Immigration Agency in Kufra received 94 Somali migrants from the Criminal Investigation Department of Tazurbu, under the protection of a force belonging to Al-Kufra military district. The migrants were placed in the illegal immigrants’ shelter, before being questioned by the Public Prosecution on how they entered the Libyan territory. The migrants received basic supplies by the Red Crescent Society, while doctors provided first aid to them after a distress call launched by the shelter officials.

The Second Criminal Chamber of Tripoli Court of Appeal postponed Wednesday the trial Saadi Gaddafi in the case of killing and torture of the former football player of Al-Ittihad Club and the Libyan national football team, Bashir Rayani, to February 20. The son of the victim, Ali Bashir Rayani, clarified in a press statement that the postponement of the trial was at the request of Saadi’s lawyer in order to prepare more documents for the hearings. Saadi Gaddafi attended the trial session held in the court complex in Tripoli, which started in 2014 in connection with of the torturing and killing of Bashir Rayani on December 23, 2005.

Al-Ittihad Football Club arrived on Wednesday evening in the Tunisian city of Sfax in preparation for its match against Sahal Club from Niger next Saturday. Al-Ittihad will play its 64th round match in the CAF Confederation Cup on the grounds of Al-Tayeb Al-Muhairi Stadium in Sfax. Their last play in the CAF Confederation Cup was in 2010, where they managed to reach the semi-finals of the tournament before being outscored by the Moroccan Al-Fath Al-Ribati Club.

The Information Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the competent authorities had repatriated 139 illegal immigrants from the Republic of Togo to their country. It confirmed that the repatriation process came after a meeting of the Togolese Ambassador to Libya with officials of the African Department of the Libyan Foreign Ministry. The Information Office noted that the Togolese Ambassador requested assistance from the Libyan Foreign Ministry in the repatriation process. Instructions were issued by Foreign Minister Mohamed Sayala to provide full support and facilitate the repatriation of migrants to their country.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, arrived Wednesday in Cairo to participate in the Third Conference of the Arab Parliament, scheduled for next Saturday. Saleh's media advisor, Abdul Hamid Al-Safi, clarified in a press statement that Aqila Saleh will attend the conference in his capacity as head of a high-level Libyan delegation, adding that he will present Libya's vision in the file of fighting terrorism. He will also hold discussion with the speakers and representatives of the Arab parliaments on ways to resolve the Libyan crisis, in accordance with constitutional mechanisms in order to restore peace and stability in the country.

The first stage of installing the mobile prefabricated class rooms, funded by UNICEF, in Sirte kicked off Thursday. Sirte municipal member for education Saleh Ayada said the class rooms are 30 and each accommodates 30 students, adding that they have desks, white boards and a teacher's table, lighting and air-conditioning. He also said that UNICEF will pay the installation costs and the class rooms will be installed in 8 student-crowded schools.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has evacuated 277 immigrants of different nationalities from Libya. IOM coordinator Juma Bin Hassan told Xinhua that 8 migrants were from Comoros, 137 from Cameroon, 123 from Senegal and 9 from Chad. Meanwhile, the Tripoli Anti-Illegal Immigration Authority said the evacuation took place after issuing travel documents for the immigrants from their embassies, adding that they were evacuated from six detention centers: Qasir Bengashir, Tareeq Al-Matar, Tajoura, Tareeq Al-Sikka, Zuwara and Misrata.
