Three oil workers, a Libyan and two Sudanese nationals, died while another was injured during a routine maintenance work at the gas plant of Zelten oilfield on Sunday. The workers have died of asphyxiation due to inhaling hydrogen sulfide (H2S), Sirte Oil and Gas Company confirmed. The company said that the injured worker, whose nationality was not reported, was rushed to the nearest medical point at Brega port, and from there to Al-Maqreif Hospital in Ajdabiya town. It added that he is still under intensive care and is said to be in critical condition.

The head of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Imad Al-Sayeh, confirmed Sunday that 75 thousand new voters have registered in the voter roll besides the 1.5 million voters who were registered in the previous elections. Al-Sayeh clarified that the number is low, especially since the statistics of the Civil Registry Authority showed that those who are entitled to vote are 4 million and a half. He stressed that their aim is to exceed the rate of the enrolled voters to 50% before the upcoming elections in 2018 to achieve an ambitious figure, adding one million citizens to the electoral roll.

everal residents of the city of Sabha in south Libya protested outside the headquarters of the municipal council Saturday, demanding the authorities to assume their responsibilities towards releasing members of the reconciliation delegation representing southern Libyan who were abducted in Tripoli three months ago while on their way to the Italian capital Rome. The protesters denounced what they called "kidnappings that target southerners in Tripoli"; warning in a statement that such irresponsible acts would harm reconciliation efforts.

he head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Ghassan Salame, said Saturday in a press interview that he did not believe that the inclusive national forum, proposed by the UN road map last September, could be held in the target date of February, especially after Libyans' insistence on holding the forum inside Libya. Salame pointed that the work of the UN mission with the Electoral Commission is only limited to the technical support, stressing that the elections will only be held after fulfilling the necessary conditions.

he Libyan Red Crescent in Tripoli distributed Sunday humanitarian assistance to some 2,000 displaced families of Tawergha staying at Al-Fallah camp No. 2, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The Red Crescent said that the aid included food, cleaning materials, household items and others. The Libyan Red Crescent had managed to provide humanitarian aid to some 500 displaced families from different cities in Libya in Al- Sarraj district of Tripoli, as well as families affected by the rain floods at the Tawergha IDPs camp at the Airport Road.

ember of the House of Representatives Saleh Fahima has stated that France and other countries are adding more fuel to the conflict in Libya. In a statement to the Arabi21 online newspaper on Sunday, Fahima said that the request of the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, to Khalifa Haftar to respect the political process was not from the premise of maintaining the principle of peaceful transfer of power. He added that Le Drian’s request aimed to crack “the military institution” and destroy it under the pretext of defending democracy, according to the newspaper.

The General Union of Sabha University Students announced the suspension of classes at the university to protest the prevailing conditions. The students complained of being marginalized by the relevant authorities and the lack of security within the campus. In a statement, the students condemned what they described “corruption within the university and its affiliated colleges”, stressing that they will continue their protest until their demands are met. The students also called on the Minister of Education to visit the university to examine the deteriorating situation.

Local citizens from Benghazi found three unidentified bodies in the district of Talhiya, east of the city on Sunday. The bodies were transferred to Benghazi Medical Centre to complete the forensic procedures. A medical source revealed that the three bodies were handcuffed and had signs of torture and gunshots. Benghazi have become a crime zone where several bodies had been found dumped in public places, especially after Dignity Operation forces seized control of the city.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) announced on Sunday that a cold wave is expected to hit several cities in Libya on December 27 and 28. In a statement, the NMC said that next Wednesday and Thursday will see a significant drop in temperature, urging citizens to take more care and caution.  The Center outlined the cities that will witness the much lower temperature include Sabha, Qatrun, Ubari, Ghat, Murzuk and Al-Awaynat.
