The new Steering Council in Benghazi took up function, from the Council appointed by the Former Military Governor of the eastern region, in the presence of the Handover Committee.

The Steering Council headed by Saqr Boujouari and four other memberships had been appointed by the east-based Interim Government in Al-Bayda city, which issued a similar decision in Shahat Municipality as well.

Dozens gathered in front of the Municipal Council HQ last week, to protest the Interim Government's decision of changing the council's name.

The protesters chanted slogans rejecting the new council, saying that it is affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood organization, as they put it.
