A landmine in Ain Zara south of Tripoli has claimed the life of a civilian and injured two others, says the Emergency Medicine and Support Centre.

According to the centre, the landmine exploded in the Kehili neighbourhood in Ain Zara. One of the injured underwent an amputation to both feet.

Three years after Khalifa Haftar's offensive on the capital, landmines planted by Haftar’s militias and Russian mercenaries as they fled the southern neighbourhoods of Tripoli remain a threat to the residents of these areas.

A report by Human Rights Watch last April confirmed the death of at least 130 people, mostly civilians, due to landmines and unexploded ordnance left over from heavy fighting in 2020.
