The Mayor of Ghat Taher al-Kabash confirmed the rescue of all members of the tourist convoy, which was subjected to an armed robbery and abduction on Friday in the mountains of Acacus by unidentified gunmen.
Al-Kabash pointed out that locals from Ghat and other neighbouring areas organized a search operation in the desert, during which they found all the members of the convoy without their cars.
Al-Kabash added that the security capabilities in the region are extremely limited, explaining that the search operation was funded by local people who did not hesitate to provide all forms of support, including the price of fuel, which was bought from the black market, stressing that the Municipality of Ghat is striving to stimulate the tourism activity in the city amid the harsh economic conditions.
