Libya and the United States signed a protocol in Washington, DC, on Tuesday to renew the cooperation agreement in the field of science and technology for ten years.

"The agreement represents a joint commitment between the United States and Libya to advance both scientific and economic progress and provides a framework for cooperation to contribute to the economic prosperity and national security of both countries," The Libyan Embassy in Washington stated on its website.

The U.S. Embassy in Libya said the renewal of the Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement will strengthen U.S.-Libya cooperation in STEM fields, ensure open data practices; extend U.S. norms and principles; and protect American intellectual property, in keeping with U.S. policy interests.
