Libya has managed to destroy 300 tons of war remnants between 2016 and 2017, according to the Director of the Libyan Center for Mine Action and War Remnants, Mohamed Al-Torjman.

In his speech during the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, Al-Torjman said the destruction of these stockpiles is a message to the international community that Libya is committed to the protection of its people.

For her part, the Deputy Special Representative and Deputy Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, María Ribeiro, said that the presence of landmines, improvised explosive devices, unexploded ordnance has been a persistent threat to the Libyan population, the safe return of IDPs and restricts access for humanitarian workers.
