The Director of the Media Center of the High National Electoral Commission (HNEC), Sami Al-Sharif, confirmed that the commission has no intention in postponing the elections from the official scheduled date on December 24 to date.

Al-Sharif reiterated in media statements that the HNEC may be forced to demand the postponement of the onset of the electoral process for between four or five days, until a safe decision on appeals and judicial results for technical reasons only can be reached.

He continued, “Postponement is possible in the event that the issue of appeals and the arrangements currently underway are not completed,” noting that the appeals as part of the appeals process is proceeding according to officialdom and there is no expectation of postponement up to this moment in time.
