The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), said in a statement on Monday that it attributed the increase of overloading in the Greater Tripoli area, partly to high weather temperatures, however, also the failure of certain areas to adhere to the load-shedding program.

The GEOCL said that it hoped the citizens of Libya generally, could understand fully the reality of the situation, which the electrical grid is suffering at the moment in an attempt to maintain power supply and avoid a total blackout.

The Company added that reports have been received in certain areas regarding attacks on transformer stations, with technicians being forced to restart electricity supply, causing an extreme burden on the network overall, resulting in the shutting down of generating units, which are subsequently rendered ‘out of service.’
