Turkish Parliament Member and former UN General Assembly president Volkan Bozkir says that holding fair and independent elections that results would be recognized and handing over power to the elected government is critical to ensuring Libya's unity.

Bozkir stressed the need to hold the elections on a solid legal basis while seeking the broadest possible consensus among all relevant institutions per the political agreement.

He emphasized the need to maintain calm and urged Libyans to decide on the elections through a legal framework based on mutual understanding.

The Turkish diplomat called on Libyan key actors to act with a sense of responsibility and for the political process to be led by the Libyans and under the auspices of the United Nations, warning that a power vacuum is not in the interest of Libyans.
