An expert team from the Antiquities Authority in the eastern region has begun its work on preserving the mummy tomb that exists in desert town of Jaghbub.

The site has been subjected to acts of vandalism and excavation of graves that resulted in the destruction of a number of graves, according to sources from the authority, explaining that the area includes four grave sites that contain more than 200 graves.

A mummy of a young girl that dates back to 1800 years ago was found on the site with funeral ritual tools. The mummy was transferred to Italy for tests and later returned to Libya in 2009 where it was placed within the exhibits of the Red Castel Museum.
