Sources in Al-Wahat region have stated that the German company Wintershall has ceased oil production on Wednesday at one of their fields in the region.
The cessation comes in response to pressure from a number of Jikharra town residents, who threatened to stop production at Al- Nafoora oil field which is run by the Arabian Gulf Oil Company.
The residents had previously stated that they would close down the field in the event of no response by the National Oil Corporation (NOC) to their demands.
Threats were made during a protest organized last Saturday by residents of the oasis town to stop the production of oil wells situated in farms and residential areas of the town in the event that the NOC was not committed to the implementation of development projects in the region.
