The British ambassador to Libya, Caroline Hurndull, has urged Libyan leaders to work towards achieving peace in their country.

In a tweet Thursday, ambassador Hurndull congratulated the Libyan people on the anniversary of their February Revolution that overthrew late dictator Muammar Gaddafi 11 years ago.

"On this important day, we look to Libya’s leaders to take responsibility for maintaining the calm and stability that all Libyans hope for and deserve, the ambassador wrote on her account.

The UK Embassy has also issued a statement on this occasion and said the UK takes "the opportunity to reflect on the progress made in Libya despite the challenges," hoping for continued momentum towards stability and prosperity.
