The Chief of the Army’s General Staff, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Al-Haddad, said that there is no relation to any external party in his Sirte meeting with Al-Raziq Al-Nadori, the acting commander of warlord Haftar’s forces, indicating that the unification of the military institution requires the presence of national political leadership.

Al-Haddad added in a press statement that the armed groups in the east or west are part of the solution and will not be abandoned, stressing the need for a purely national project to integrate and recognize them.

With regard to the political process, Al-Haddad reiterated that he is not in favour of elections that take place outside the law and the constitution, noting that it is the responsibility of the House of Representatives and the High National Electoral Commission (HNEC) to keep the process on track.
