The Director of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Badr al-Din Al-Najjar, confirmed Libya is free from cholera, as the monitoring teams have not yet reported any cases so far in the country.

This assertion came during a meeting with the Vice President of the Presidential Council Ahmed Maiteeq and in the presence of the Minister of Health Omar Al-Taher, where officials of the NCDC submitted a brief on the measures taken to prevent the raging of cholera, after the outbreak of this infection in the neighbouring country of Algeria.

Al-Najjar also stressed the readiness of the Centre through its branches and offices in all regions of Libya to address the problem by assigning the teams of monitoring and response to the task.

For his part, Maiteeq stressed the need to provide the required inoculations in the health facilities as the front line of defence to address any disease and to be followed-up by the Ministry of Health and its affiliates.
