An EU delegation in Gharyan to assess its health sector and revive former mutual health projects

A delegation from the European Union visited Gharyan on Sunday and met with many officials in the health sector in the city, before it paid a visit to Gharyan Central Hospital, clinics compound, and the school of nursing at the city’s college in order to assess the health conditions in Gharyan.

The Libyan News Agency (LANA) reported the Director of Preliminary Health Care Department at the Health Ministry, Ghassan Kareem, as saying that the visit comes as an assessment of the health conditions in Gharyan in order to depict the central hospital, clinics compound, and the school of nursing’s requirements and shortages.

“The Ministry of Health is trying to reactivate a former project with the EU after having agreed upon in 2012-2013 with the aim of boosting the health system in Libya.” Kareem added.

He indicated that the current assessment by the EU delegation includes the municipalities of Gharyan, Sooq Al-Jumua in Tripoli, and Zliten firstly, aiming at putting forth a plan to train medical staff and assistant staffers in hospitals and clinics compounds, stepping up and developing the health system inside those places.

“The EU delegation also aims at rehabilitating and training the professional crews at the health sector and developing the skills of the medical workforce as well as the health system by building new health centers and receiving medical expertise as much as possible.” Kareem included.
