Young Libyan Taha Abuhamira has been crowned for the 11-14 age group in The 2020 Matrix Challenge, a British cyber security competition organized by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Cyber Crime Unit (YHRCCU) in The UK.

The contest was open to students aged between 11-17. Taha managed to make a name for himself from amongst 65,000  talented school pupils in his field.

The 2020 Matrix Challenge is an annual competition that seeks to unearth young talents in this relatively new area and promote positive pathways into cybersecurity careers.

The Libya Observer reached out to Taha's mother, who said that her son has been hooked on to digital technology from an early age.

"Taha knew how to use the keyboard before he can even speak. He was copying, cutting, and pasting at the age of two. When Taha was eight, he became hooked enough to want to design and develop his own games," she said.

The young genius received his primary education in his homeland Libya. He attended state schools in Tripoli and enjoyed the support and assistance of his family.

His school and teachers expressed pride in his achievements, confirming that he is a smart, impressive young man who works hard and has a real passion for computer science.

The challenge results were postponed from 2020 because of covid-19 restrictions.

He was announced as a winner at an online awards ceremony last February.
