The Government of National Unity has approved a bill concerning the salaries, benefits, and other rights of Higher Education staff.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Imran Al-Qeib said on Saturday that the decision comes in implementation of Resolution No. 4 of 2018, which stipulates the government's commitment to establishing a new salary scale to resolve the problem of bonuses and promotions.

In an online video statement, Al-Qeib confirmed that the government would release the suspended salaries of all workers in the higher education sector, including professors, teaching assistants, and employees.

He indicated that the amount of increase in the salaries was deducted by the Ministry of Finance before the start of the sit-in in universities, based on the directives of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.

It may be worth noting that the employees of the higher education sector and faculty members in universities had announced on Saturday that they would engage in an open sit-in and suspend studies in universities until their demands to activate the decisions outlined above are met.
