Tunisia will reopen its airspace to flights from Libya, Tunisian Minister of Transport, Mahmoud Bin Ramadan revealed on Tuesday.

Ben Ramadan said in a press statement to Hakaek Online that the Tunisian airports will receive, over the next few days, planes coming from east and west of Libya, indicating that the Tunisian Ministry of Transport is making the necessary preparations for receiving the Libyan planes. However, he did not specify a certain time therefore.

The Minister added that the process of reopening the Tunisian airports for the Libyan aviation is still pending some procedures specially security ones.

He also underlined that during the first phase the Libyan aircrafts will be greeted at the Tunisian airports and then in the second stage the Tunisian planes will resume flights to Libya.

The Tunisian decision comes following June IS attack on a beach in the Tunisian resort town of Sousse. The attack was a big blow to the Tunisian economy which mainly relies on tourism. Many western tourists have cancelled their trips to Tunisia where authorities are now working to attract Arab Maghreb tourists including Libyans to occupy the empty hotels.

The Libyans have recently recorded the highest number of visits to Tunisia to either receive treatment or enjoy the summer vacation.
