Libya’s Audit Bureau has issued a report about the lawsuits filed against the Libyan State unveiling that lawsuits against Libya, inside and outside the country, have amounted to LYD3,494,643,671 with a total number of 60319 lawsuits, whereas the dispute cases filed in courts abroad against Libya during 2015 reached 30.

The Audit Bureau said it realized that there had been a collaboration between Libyan parties with some companies, which gave lists of additional costs after they had received the whole dues of their contracts. It added that this goes true for the contract between the Housing and Infrastructure Board and the Libyan-Brazilian Company.

Although the Libyan-Brazilian Company left Libya on February 23, 2011and received all its financial dues without achieving anything on the ground, it had provided additional costs worth LYD51,140,626 before it went to the international judiciary to demand LYD129m, explained the Audit Bureau.

The Audit Bureau also said that the Housing and Infrastructure Board had asked it to release some frozen assets to finish the executive form for the compensation verdict with the Libyan- Brazilian Company. However, the Audit Bureau refused, as there were doubts of corruption in the contract regarding all its phases since the date it was signed in 2007.

“There are so many reasons behind the growing number of lawsuits against the Libyan State such as trials in absentia by Libyan courts against the Libyan State - sometimes from the first session paying no attention to the absentee who is very keen to win the case - besides insincere work by the internal check and review office in the Ministry of Finance.” The Audit Bureau indicated.
