The Ministry of Culture and Civil Society, in cooperation with Press Support and Promotion Authority, has celebrated in Tripoli today World Press Freedom Day under the slogan “Free Press-One Homeland”.

Minister of Culture and Civil Society, Younis Al-Tibawi, reaffirmed, in a statement, the significance of the role of independent press that can help build Libya through transparency and liability as well as the rule of law. He also said that a suitable environment should exist so that journalists are given a helping hand in their search for facts, which would enable them to publicize them neutrally and professionally kicking off a phase of free press and distinguished media.

In a statement issued at the end of the event, the attendees have also condemned the assault on Libyan journalists, calling for unveiling the mystery covering the fate of the two Tunisian journalists and the mystery of the Libyan Barga channel journalists who were killed at work.

A photographs gallery for Libyan photographers has taken place as part of the event’s activities, displaying photos of Libya’s beauty and traditions, in addition to this, there has been also another gallery for books, magazines, and newspapers.

Several SG Ministers attended the event, held in Waddan hotel, in addition to some managers from local media organizations, and the head of Press Support and Promotion Authority.
