The central sector in the Libyan Coast Guard seized on Sunday five boats in northwestern Al-Garaboulli, some 60km to the east of Tripoli, carrying almost more than 500 illegal immigrants of different nationalities.

The boat was led to Misrata port where the immigrants were housed in various sheltering centers and were provided with immediate care.

On the other hand, the western sector of the Coast Guard rescued yesterday a boat carrying 166 illegal immigrants of different African nationalities 45 miles off Al-Zawiya coast.

“The rescue operation took hours due to the unavailability of logistic equipment, which obliged the Guard to use normal boats.” The spokesperson of the Libyan Navy, Colonel Ayoub Al-Qasim, said.
