The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) on Thursday announced it had agreed to a deal with the Montenegrin Zoran Filipovic to coach the national football team.

The LFF revealed the news at a major press conference in Tripoli, in the presence of its president, Abdel Hakim Al-Shalmani.

Filipovic will become the third head coach to oversee the national team's chances in the African Nations qualifiers scheduled to be held in Cameroon next year, after the Tunisian Faouzi Benzarti and the Libyan Ali Al-Marjini.

The 67 years old new coach confirmed that he would work from inside Libya to strengthen the national motivation of the players, clarifying that he would follow closely the matches of the youth teams, Al-Ahly Tripoli Clubs, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Ahly Benghazi in the African club competitions, to get an idea of the players' capabilities in light of tournament's suspension due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the war waged on Tripoli by warlord Khalifa Haftar.

Filipovic will face the biggest challenge when the Mediterranean Knights begin the World Cup qualifying journey "Qatar 2022" after the draw placed them in a difficult group with the Egyptian and Gabonese national teams.
